Melbourne Money dining is officially open

Diners who spend between $50 and $500 (including GST) in Melbourne’s restaurants, cafes and bars can now claim a 20 per cent rebate on their total food and drink bill.

City of Melbourne has launched a new $8.4 million dining initiative in partnership with the Victorian Government, to bring people back into the city and provide much needed support for the Melbourne hospitality sector.

Diners who spend between $50 and $500 (including GST) in Melbourne’s restaurants, cafes and bars can now claim a 20 per cent rebate on their total food and drink bill. The rebate will be provided to your nominated Australian bank account within five business days of your claim being approved. The offer will be on a first-in-first-served basis until funds are exhausted.

The rebate is available across the entire municipality including Southbank, Chinatown, Lygon Street, Docklands, North Melbourne and Kensington and at hospitality venues within sporting, arts and theatre precincts.

How the rebate will work

You can claim your 20 per cent rebate in three easy steps:

  1. Pay for your meal in full and make sure you get an itemised receipt with the business name and ABN on it.
  2. Take a photo or scan a copy of your receipt and upload it with your bank details via our secure Melbourne Money website. 
  3. Your 20 per cent rebate will be credited to your nominated Australian bank account within five business days once your claim has been approved.

As per current guidelines provided by the Victorian Government, if you are travelling into the city please ensure that you adhere to the current restrictions.

What is the Melbourne Money program?

​Melbourne Money offers residents and visitors the opportunity to claim back 20 percent of their food and drink bill when they come into the city of Melbourne to dine. It’s a great incentive to get back into the city and support our hospitality businesses. The offer is open on a first in best dressed basis until the $8.4m fund is exhausted. 

Who is administering the program?

  • The program is being administered by City of Melbourne and WAIVPAY Ltd.
  • The program is jointly funded by the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne.

How does it work?

  • ​From 12.01am Friday 11 June 2021, when you spend a minimum of $50 and up to $500 (inc GST) in a single transaction you can claim a 20 percent rebate by uploading your ABN receipt and bank details to a secure website - Melbourne Money.
  • You’ll need to pay for your meal in full first and obtain an itemised receipt (including ABN).You’ll also need to provide your name, email, mobile phone number and bank account details. You will be required to upload a photo of your dining receipt, and agree to the terms and conditions of the program.
  • Upon submitting your claim you will receive a tracking number. You can access Melbourne Money and enter your tracking number to see the progress of your claim.
  • Your 20 per cent rebate will be deposited in your nominated bank account within five working days. Payments cannot be made by cash or cheque. Please note, you must have an Australian bank account to claim.
  • Only one receipt can be uploaded per claim.
  • As claims are processed on a first in best dressed basis until available funds are exhausted, make sure you complete and submit your claim as quickly as possible.
  • You can check Melbourne Money for regular updates on remaining program funds before submitting your claim.

Who can claim the 20 percent rebate?

All residents and visitors to the City of Melbourne who spend a minimum of $50 and up to $500 (inc GST) in a single transaction can claim a 20 percent rebate on food and drink in a single transaction on eligible spend from 12.01am Friday 11 June 2021 until funds are exhausted.

What can the rebate be claimed on and where?

  • ​You can claim your 20 per cent back on food and drink including alcohol, provided alcohol is combined with dine in food purchases.
  • The rebate is only available at hospitality businesses such as restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs within the City of Melbourne municipality.
